Precast Concrete Driven Piling

Building on shallow foundations is suitable when the ground condition is good and the load is moderate. As site locations and ground quality vary hugely, a ground inspection may be required to establish the condition of the site and if a piling solution is needed.

Terradrive’s precast concrete piling involves driving factory-made, high-strength concrete piles into the ground using a hydraulic hammer/piling rig, creating a strong foundation for a wide variety of projects including buildings, infrastructure, and marine projects.

When to use a Precast Concrete Piling Solution

  • The water table is high/the project is next to water – riverside, lakeside, or seaside development
  • The site is a brownfield site, or a contaminated site and spoil removal is problematic
  • Working with poor soil quality or a soil type where stability is affected by water, e.g. high peat or silt content
  • The load to be carried requires additional support, e.g. large structures such as multi storey buildings, wind turbines, or bridges.
  • The foundations extend above ground or water level
  • Existing foundations are not stable

Key Advantages of Precast Concrete Piling

Precast concrete piles offer consistent quality, quick installation, are cost-effective, and generate zero spoil. They are a sustainable solution for various soil conditions, including deep foundations and contaminated sites.
$

Factory Made:

Piles are cast in a controlled environment, ensuring consistent strength and quality.

$

Project Requirements:

Precast piles can be pre-manufactured to required project specifications.

$

Sectional:

Available in standard lengths and can be connected with joints to achieve the required depth.

$

Installation:

Driven into the ground by a top-mounted hydraulic hammer.

$

Quality Control:

Load capacity is checked during installation by monitoring the driving resistance.

$

Sustainability

Less site waste, reduced transport, and lower overall environmental impact.

Advantages of choosing precast concrete piling for your build

$

Cost-Effective

The installation is quick and there’s no need for spoil removal.

$

Sustainability

Zero spoil means less waste and friendlier to the environment.

$

High Integrity

Suitable for a wide variety of ground conditions, precast piles maintain their shape and are not affected by water or susceptible to damage by the installation of subsequent piles.

$

Tight Spaces/Restricted Access

Mini piling solutions can be tailored to restricted access sites/projects.

$

Quality Control

Factory production ensures verifiable quality.

$

Ground Improvement

Compaction of surrounding soil due to pile driving in turn enhances the load bearing capacity of the piles.

What are the advantages of precast concrete driven piling?
Two of the main advantages of precast concrete driven piling are 1. no spoil is generated in constructing the piles and 2. piles are manufactured to NSAI standards in a controlled factory environment.
How deep can precast concrete piles be driven?
Piles can be driven to unlimited lengths, depending on the site requirements, using mechanical jointing of individual pile module lengths.
Is precast piling more cost-effective than bored piling?
Yes. Precast concrete piling is more cost effective and faster to install than bored piling. There is no spoil generated in the construction of the piles and hence fewer attendances are required, in addition to no requirement for the removal of spoil from site.
What types of soil are best suited for driven concrete piles?
All soil types are suitable for driven precast concrete piling.
However, weak, unstable, or soft ground conditions — such as clay, silt, peat, or loose sand — love piling. Driven precast concrete piles are ideal for ground with high water tables, marshy ground, brownfield sites, or ground that needs to support heavy loads.
